What is FreeSpin3D?
It’s a fresh and simple application and approach that enables Flash designers and developers to easily develop real-time 3D content for the web.

FreeSpin3D enables clientless 3D content for all web users – no client, no plug-in, and no add-on – just the user and their existing browser whether its Explorer, Firefox, or Opera.

Who is it for?
FreeSpin3D, In a nutshell, is for web designers and developers. More specific it’s for Flash content developers.

FreeSpin3D literally enables a new dimension to content and design. This means new and fresh game-plays for web gaming, attention grabbing advertisements, angles for edutainment content, approaches to convey information, and creative possibilities.

I’m not really familiar with 3D, where should I start?
A good start would be to follow our tutorials and download a model from our free model download area.

What is the difference between FreeSpin3D and Pre-rendered 3D technologies like Swift 3D?
There is a big difference. Freespin3D is ‘Real time 3D’, meaning that the 3D content is fully interactive. Swift 3D renders 3D frame-by-frame animations that can then be imported into Flash.

Doesn't Adobe Flash CS4 and Flash player 10 already have 3D?
No. The Flash CS4 and Flash player 10 are really fantastic (and highly recommended) but they are not 3D. What they do is enable 3D effects (3D manipulation of 2D objects). You cannot create 3D models or import 3D models into Flash, nor does it provide 3D physics and behaviors...that’s where FreeSpin3D comes in. FreeSpin3D enables real 3D in Adobe Flash for delivery through the Flash player.

I am a Flash designer, not a developer or programmer. How does FreeSpin3D help me?

FreeSpin3D was developed with both Flash communities in mind. The Creative Flashers can simply use the standard Adobe Flash Timeline and our one-click 3D behaviors to create interactive 3D content. Code savvy developers can delve deeper - much deeper and even augment the 3D API of FreeSpin3D with their own ideas such as, new behaviors, physics, and actions.

I’m an advanced ActionScript Programmer, what are my options?

FreeSpin3D enhances the Flash MovieClip Class API to include 3D capabilities providing powerful scripting interface for advanced programmers. For a complete description of the 3D MovieClip API refer to the FreeSpin3D help topics in the Adobe Flash help file (just press F1 and look for the FreeSpin3D book).

Is FreeSpin3D based on open source technology?

No, FreeSpin3D™ is based on patented algorithms, processes and innovations that enable developers to produce and deliver commercial grade content.

I’m a 3D modeler, how can I fit in the emerging market of 3D for the web?

Import your 3D Model into Flash and display it on your site for sale or sell the 3D Model “as is” at your “local” 3D library. Remember to tag it “FreeSpin3D Friendly” so that the Flash developers will know to look for it.

Log in to our partner 3D libraries and start selling – it’s a whole new market out there.

Can I create a 3D Model with FreeSpin3D?

FreeSpin3D™ is not a 3D modeling software – it enables the importing of 3D Models into Flash.

Where can I get help on using FreeSpin3D?

We have provided our users several ways to get help or advice in general:

The FreeSpin3D online forum

The FreeSpin3D help system documentation.

How can I use FreeSpin3D with the Adobe Flash Timeline?

Like any other Flash Movieclip, FreeSpin3D was designed and built to fully support the Flash Timeline, when you create a 3D Model instance it is actually a Flash Movieclip object, using the FreeSpin3D Control panel and the Flash Timeline you can create 3D content with no coding at all.

To open the FreeSpin3D Control panel: Window > Other Panels > FreeSpin3D

Where can I find free 3D models?
3d models can be found in many places. To start with, you can find 3D Models FL3D files in our site. If you’re looking for something more specific you can look for 3D Models online, make sure you look for 3ds models with JPG textures, places to look:

Technical Information

With Which Adobe Flash version can I use Freespin3D?
FreeSpin3D™ runs on Adobe Flash CS3 and CS4 with ActionScript 3.0 - the latest cutting edge Flash scripting language.

When installing FreeSpin3D does it install any dll’s or other executables on my computer?
FreeSpin3D is a pure Adobe Flash Component installed using the Adobe Extension Manager, nothing else is installed on your computer.

What is an FL3D?
Its our proprietary file format. Adobe Flash is a vector-based technology; as such it is 2D and cannot accommodate 3D models in their native file format – in comes the Freespin3D which enables these 3D models.

When importing a 3D Model of file type 3ds, the FL3D file is created which includes the 3D Model and the import settings. The FL3D is a unique graphic representation of the 3D Model.

This approach allows:

1. Diagnosing and solving any complex structures in the 3D Model beforehand, allowing a smooth, accurate and optimized real-time rendering of the 3D Model within the Adobe Flash movie.

2. Importing the 3D Model as an Adobe Flash MovieClip object into the scene and extending its API to include 3D capabilities (e.g. rotation).

3. Optimization of the resulting Adobe Flash movie both in file size and performance.

Is it possible to play video as texture on model?
Of course, you can place the video in a sprite and pass the sprite as texture.

Can you guys at FreeSpin3D Develop content for us?

No, but we can connect you with someone who can.
